01jan25 - pic of my humble herb garden

Hey hey hey, happy new year everyone. It’s starting to become a bit of a trend with big family events that I’ll indulge in some depression posting. While this is very much a personal blog that’s relatively hidden as of writing this post; I still want to keep it relatively light. As such, my previous post for Christmas has been removed. It was a good exercise, but not worth reading or preserving.

Since moving, I’ve now got a humble little herb garden that involved a few firsts for me. Mainly, laying bricks. I was psyching myself out for it, but it turned out to be pretty simple. Mix mortar and water (not too much water) together until it looks like wet sand, and then lay it on the joining point for two bricks. Essentially adult sandcastles. Mind you, doing it well is hard, but I don’t think I did horribly for a first attempt on bricks that were already in place. As for the herbs, the hours clocked at my old house have paid off. Our old herb garden has had a few generations that I’ve helped prep and plant, so I know the routine. Cow poop, herb soil mix, Seasol and Wettasoil all mixed together and then a few holes dug for seedlings, and that’s all you need. Hopefully. I’ll know in 2 weeks when they’ve had a chance to grow. Except for the thyme, which I had really awful seedlings for.

Work on the house has slowed down since moving in though. Thanks to wealthy parents of one of my roommates, most of our house is already kitted out with good furnishings and equipment. It feels a bit off - like I’ve skipped a few steps somewhere - but I’m not in a rush to get things done now, so being able to chill out is nice. Of course there is a lot more to do, but nothing that I’m rushing to get done, like a herb garden or a kitted kitchen. It’s nice to feel comfortably setup, less than 2 weeks in.
