It’s been 2 months since moving into my new place now. Things were going good for a while. I was jogging every other morning, eating well. Although the last few weeks I’ve slipped into a malaise. I find myself struggling to care about many things around me. Typically, I’m motivated by others, but as of late I feel that slipping as well. I remember a time of being curious of others at work, and my friends around me. Perhaps accepting my own self-apathy instead of ignoring it, makes it so that I don’t have the same drive to cover it up with the stories and interests of those around me when I talk to people. Perhaps the stress of a busy period at work has led me to deaden my emotions so that I can handle the anxiety of big jobs that I feel unqualified for. However, from here on I’ll try to be better. This blog post being part of that.
There’s been a few cool things I’ve checked out, and as an excuse to yap, here are some more reviews:
My Review Scale
⭐ Something I enjoyed, was good/important to do, stirred some feeling - e.g. my Morning Routine
⭐⭐ Really enjoyed doing it, had a strong impact on me, felt it in my chest - e.g. Montmorency falls visit
⭐⭐⭐All-time favourite, life-altering impact, stricken by the feels - e.g. Quitting my 7-year job
Echo Point Nova ⭐⭐ An open-world ULTRAKILL-like that also has co-op! Me and a mate jumped into this sandbox of a game and had a blast. Translating the grapple hook from Titanfall to a map the size of a small country of asteroids, is a great time. At its core, you grapple and slide from asteroid to asteroid looking for combat arenas, and then dance around enemies with the same tools while also trying to shoot them at the same time. Unlocking perks after every encounter helps to spice up each encounter as well as being encouraged to swap between weapons with a back-pocket reload and prestige system for each gun. It’s a game-ass game that I had a lot fun with.
Rabbit and Steel ⭐ Maybe the best-way to enjoy FF14 style combat. A blend of bullet hell games and MMO boss combat, it’s a top down game where you control a very boiled down MMO class while trying to dodge boss attacks that quickly surpass anything that you can find in the FF14 duty finder. It also has co-op! Being able to skip straight to the meat of MMO fights is a winning combo, as there is a wonderful dance to be had with a bullet hell with friends, as you have to avoid others with mechanics.
Monster Hunter Wilds ⭐ Objectively one of the best Monster Hunter Games, however I feel a little underwhelmed by it. Perhaps I’m in a bad place with its release, but it feels as though the game is missing a few beats to its end-game. A wonderful environment, nice music and interesting weather system are let down by the gameplay somewhat. The hunter is too strong. Monster fights don’t last long enough with the new weak point system, as there are now multiple extra ways to stagger and bring down a monster for each fight. It feels like a casino where the games are rigged in our favour. A lot of the game feels tailored to making the monster a target dummy which goes against the vastly expanded defensive tools of each weapon. The monsters don’t give hunters much of chance to explore those defensive moves when being hit isn’t punishing enough, with quick rises, palico buffs and weak damage numbers. Perhaps I got too used to afflicted monsters from MHR:Sunbreak who would turn a tutorial monster into something that can two-shot. Here’s hoping harder enemies unlock a better feel for all the existing mechanics!
