Well it’s been officially one year since I’ve posted to this blog. My grand statement to better myself goes as most usually do. Some good, some bad and ultimately falling off the bandwagon. That said, there has been quite a bit to be proud of with just this site alone. Since its inception, I’ve included:
In my personal life its been less good though. My grand conviction to quit Runescape last year rebounded hard. Its been a majority of what I’ve been doing over the past half year. An upside of that, is that I’ve burned through a majority of what I’ve set out to do in it - leaving just the hard stuff to accomplish. In a way I have an aspiration to keep going for it now, as that stuff would be something to be proud of (even though it’s at the cost of many, many wasted hours). I’ve also stopped jogging or working out, or writing blog posts, or trying out new indie games, or much of anything.
Even still, there’s been flickers here and there of things I want to do and check out. Blue Prince was a nice surprise, which re-ignited a desire to check out Riven and enjoy some more puzzle games. I finally committed to completing my favourite game - Rain World - after getting to the 3/4 mark and giving up last time. I’ve had more ideas about this site, and gained some confidence at work (even though its mostly thanks to deadening my emotions). It’s definitely a step down from where I was last year, but I think there’s room and potential for improvement, so I don’t think I’ll be in this place forever.
A big development for me was going on my first work trip. It was a trip down to Albany with my manager to induct new staff. While there, I had a nice walk with my manager past an ANZAC memorial which had this beautiful honeysuckle tree with honeyeaters birds darting between its branches. I love honeyeaters, with the New Holland Honeyeater being one of my favourite birds! I mean look at this guy:
In my attempt to capture it, my phone could barely get a good enough shot for the birds to be anything other than specks in the frame. Even it was clear, the beauty of the motion as they danced through likely wouldn’t be captured on video either. It was barely sharp enough to take a pciture. Which brings me to the model at the top. I have an idea of wanting to create an interactable animated diorama of sorts that people can play with and manipulate on a webpage. A fun little interactive scene that tries to capture some of the nature of that scene. The past month has been a lot of (slow) groundwork in trying to get to that point, but I think I’m at a point now where I just have to get really good at 3D modelling to make that idea a reality. How hard can that be?
