Hello everyone, been a while eh? I brought up this website recently and realized I haven’t touched it for yonks, so here’s my annual check-in. Wowee, reading through the old posts I hadn’t realized howe mopey and depressed I was over the past two years. I don’t know when exactly that changed, but I’m feeling a lot better now. It’s a weird thing to notice in retrospect, rather than in the moment, but it’s a nice feeling.
Reading back through old posts, a lot of them we’re especially dour, so I’ve relegated those sections to the mope zone. The site is now 30% less sad. See if you can find the spots where I did some editing. I’ll leave the titles as they are though as a small artifact of that time. While I think it’s important to leave stuff as they are for preservation purposes, I don’t think my depression posting is super relatable or important when it’s nestled in between holiday pics. I was also a big fan of Tim Rogers’ writing at the time and way trying to mimic his style and tendency to dip into those topics. I don’t think they are earned without very good writing or 10,000 words of preamble though.
That aside, let’s go through a re-cap of the past year.
At the start of the year Xata tightened the leash on their free plan and forced a migration to a new platform. I hadn’t looked at this site in a while so I tried to quickly migrate over after not doing any coding for a year, which was a bigger task than I thought. As such, the guestbook now points towards a dead database and does nothing. Oh well! I might see if there’s a nicer alternative in the future, but for now I’ll leave it as is.
As mentioned above I’ve done a quick editing pass on the posts to make them less depressed and a little more coherent. If you really want the OG source, break into my computer and have a poke around my drafts area. Beware though, they are sad AND poorly written!
Otherwise, not much to report. Work’s been busy lately and I haven’t had the free time to slack off writing blogs or working on web components. Sorry to my loyal troupe of web scrapers.
